About
Jabin Botsford is a Pulitzer Prize-winning photojournalist and visual storyteller who documents power, politics, and the moments that define American life.
For eleven years, from 2015 to 2026, he worked as a staff photographer at The Washington Post. He covered elections, presidential administrations, breaking news, natural disasters, sports, and long-form feature stories across the country and around the world. Since 2014 he has closely followed U.S. presidential campaigns and administrations, with a particular focus on Donald Trump.
In 2025 he was part of the team that won the Pulitzer Prize for Breaking News Reporting, recognized for its coverage of the July 13, 2024 assassination attempt on Donald Trump. His contributions included first-person video shot on Ray-Ban Meta glasses, still photography from the scene, and a shared reporting byline.
His work has also fed into several other Pulitzer-winning projects at The Washington Post. Those include the 2026 Pulitzer Prize for Public Service for coverage of the Trump administration’s push to reshape the federal government, the 2024 Pulitzer Prize in National Reporting on the rise of the AR-15, and the 2022 Pulitzer Prize for Public Service for coverage of the January 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol.
Along the way his photography has been honored by World Press Photo, Pictures of the Year International, and the NPPA’s Best of Photojournalism. He has been named White House News Photographers Association Photographer of the Year three times.
Outside of assignments, Jabin speaks regularly at universities, conferences, and photography festivals about visual storytelling, creativity, newsroom life, and where photojournalism is headed next. He loves teaching, mentoring other photographers, reviewing portfolios, and talking through ideas with the next generation of visual journalists.
Today he works independently and is available for editorial, commercial, and advertising assignments, as well as speaking engagements, workshops, portfolio reviews, consulting, and long-form documentary projects.
Originally from Florida, Jabin studied photojournalism and sociology at Western Kentucky University. He now lives in Washington, D.C.
